Description of Work:

A market-leading broker dealer in New York is seeking a dynamic Data Scientist to join our New York division to identify key areas for improvement and optimization for data accessibility and storage. The Data Scientist will communicate among internal business and technology units and lead the company through development of data and analytics best practices. We are seeking a proven resource with a deep understanding of fixed income and mortgage data analytics that can interface within our internal teams for ongoing solutions and initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Communicate among internal business and technology units to identify key areas for improvement and optimization related to our data accessibility and storage

  • Develop and lead the company in best practices for data and analytics

  • Partner with data stewards to continuously improve data availability and quality while ensuring compliance with regulatory and security policies

  • Identify opportunities to use data to develop new strategies and improve business performance utilizing knowledge of quantitative and qualitative data analytics

  • Develop and implement complex reporting and analytical processes using a variety of techniques ranging from simple data aggregation to complex data analysis

  • Develop custom tools and applications for data visualization to improve transparency



Knowledge/Experience:

  • A graduate level education with a focus on statistics, econometrics, economics, finance, financial engineering, mathematics, engineering orother related quantitative fields

  • A strong understanding of enterprise data design and architecture with significant experience using SQL as well as other query languages (Hive, Pig) and databases (MongoDB, Cassandra, HBase)

  • Knowledge of at least one or more enterprise languages (C/C++/C#/Java) and scripting languages (Python, Ruby, Perl)

  • Proficiency in one or more analytic packages (SAS, R, MATLAB)

  • Experience with data visualization tools (Tableau, Qlikview)

  • Familiarity with mortgage and fixed-income data - experience working in a financial firm strongly preferred

  • Experience with one or more mortgage analytics providers (1010Data, Trepp, CoStar, Xceligent, Intex, etc) preferred

  • Strong business acumen, analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong communication skills to explain complex data problems, structures, and design

  • Ability to understand complex business problems and break down analytics projects into a structured approach

  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and oral and written communication skills

  • Strong work ethic
