Detailed Info:The ideal candidate is an entrepreneurial self-starter who is passionate about continuous learning in a rapidly evolving data space. Extreme technical competence (but not necessarily in Big Data), intellectual curiosity, attention to detail are essential, as are flexibility and comfort working in a growing organization.


  • Sourcing data: leading technical vendor due diligence (e.g., quality of APIs and machine learning algorithms); developing bespoke in-house data acquisition programs (e.g., webscraping/ crowdsourcing); integrating with vendors to ingest data into our cloud-based infrastructure

  • Featuring data: working with vendors and/ or developing internal algorithms to process data (e.g., sentiment analysis, product matching); readying data for Data Insights Analysts to readily consume and delivering bespoke insights

  • Predictive analytics: collaborating with Data Insights Analysts to determine statistical significance and error ranges of findings for a wide variety of data sources and analyses; developing data-driven models to predict key company financial and operational metrics

  • Infrastructure development and maintenance: creating custom solutions to continuously monitor our data pipeline; maintaining our underlying infrastructure and platforms to ensure availability; continuous due diligence of new technologies for introduction to the Data team and wider firm

  • Application development: developing bespoke (primarily) web-based applications to facilitate data adoption within the Firm and efficient operation within the Data team

  • University collaboration: managing day to day research collaborations with leading universities on machine learning and Big Data topics

Development/Computing Environment:

  • Bachelor's Computer Science or Engineering or Math degree with a minimum 3.6GPA from a Tier 1 university. Ideally Masters or PhD

  • 5+ years experience with Python (or R) and another relevant language (e.g., Java, Julia)

  • Experience with cloud based development (e.g., lambdas, Kinesis, EMR) to ingest and process TB+ datasets. Practical experience with a major cloud provider - Azure, AWS, GCP desired

  • Hands on experiences with most of:

  • SQL

  • Spark

  • Machine learning frameworks (e.g., Tensorflow)

  • Automated data acquisition (e.g., Scrapy)

  • Natural language and image recognition models

  • Proficient with advanced statistics, especially with predictive models and tests of statistical significance

  • Significant contributions to the open source community

  • Highly numeric and detail oriented, as well as loves to creatively problem solve

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Track record of continuous learning

  • Demonstrated passion for data, although past experience not required

  • Highest degree of integrity, professionalism and confidentiality
